Ms. Jessica Preston was born and raised in Massachusetts. She moved with her family to Michigan and followed in the footsteps of her father who was a pioneer in the career field of Physician Assistants. With her early exposure to medicine it was virtually fore destined that she would enter the health care professions. Ms. Preston worked in the arena of eldercare while going to college and did Alzheimer's research. Prior her education as a Physician Assistant, she received numerous awards for her community service and was awarded academic scholarships for her education. During her undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, she received the coveted American Chemical Society Award in Biochemistry, and was nominated for The Chancellor's Award. Ms. Preston graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in biochemistry, with a minor in psychology. She is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Ms. Preston attended Wayne State University on the Graduate-Professional Scholarship and earned a Master's of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies. She was awarded clinical honors in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She was the Chairperson for Mentor and Orientation Committee and was a member of the Thinker's Guild, a philosophical debate group. After graduation, she completed a competitive post graduate fellowship in Obstetrics & Gynecology furthering her expertise in the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of women's health. Her passion for the sciences, and biochemistry in particular, was cultivated from a young age by her grandfather; Dr. Minor J. Coon-the biochemist who discovered the Cytochrome P450 enzymatic pathway in the liver. In addition to being well versed in the biochemical processes of life, Ms. Preston demonstrates an enviable love for the care of patients, which shows in her every interaction and her rapidly growing patient population. Ms. Preston's love of medicine is obvious in her teaching as well. She volunteers her time at the Wayne State University Physician Assistant Studies program and teaches physician assistant students both in the classroom and the clinical setting. She has been awarded 'Lecturer of the Year' and consistently receives high praise for clinical teaching. Her clinical interests include adolescent gynecology, menopause, endometriosis, infertility and sexual dysfunction in women. She is a Fellow of the American Physician's Assistant Association of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Besides medicine and teaching, she is also a mother of twins. She strives to discover new avenues to assist in preserving our resources to allow for continued support and service for future generations. Ms. Preston is also interested in health care reform and providing quality care to every patient who may need services, regardless of their health care coverage. |
